Sony named its theme for the CES
event “Play”. The interesting part of the event was a smart tennis sensor which
adds gyro and vibrational detection to your racquet which is linked with your
smartphone through Bluetooth. This smart sensor gives you few valuable
instructions which can help you in improving your games drastically. You can
have a look at the hands on
experience of this new smart sensor. Right after the CES event Sony
representative told us that they have not yet decided any name for this new
smart device and the price isn’t finalized as well. Well, at today’s press
event Sony had a lot to tell about this new device. At a tennis club near its
Shinagawa headquarters, Sony announced that this new smart device will be
available in Japan in the mid of May for 18,000 Yen ($174).
When we first saw this new Sony
Smart tennis sensor we thought that it is just a concept and will never enter
the real world. But Sony has once again proved us wrong by announcing the exact
launch date with the pricing details. This shows how seriously Sony is taking
all this. For now this Sony Smart Tennis Sensor will support only six Yonex
EZone and VCore tennis racquets. However, support for more models will be
provided in the near future.
The downside of this device is
that you will need a separate Sony Smart Tennis Sensor for each player. If in
case your friend uses your device then data of both of you will mix up. This is
the major concern and according to Sony they are working on this. They are
trying to make one device useable by multiple users. This means they will have
to make this smart device even smarter.
Sony is also developing a companion
application for this new Sony Smart Tennis Sensor on both IOS and Android. It
is expected that Sony will extend the support and will later develop
application for WP8. However, this will be possible after the launch of Sony
Vaio Windows Mobile or we might see the launch WP8 application along with Sony
Vaio Windows Mobile. This application will show the stats and the area where
the ball hit on your racquet. Moreover, it will also record the video of your
serves which can be replayed later along with some other stats. Isn’t it
awesome? On paper this new device looks great. We will have to wait and see how
practical and handy it can be on the field.
